Faculty Responsibilities in Student Advisement

The administration recognizes the importance of academic advising in the well-being, development, retention, and graduation of Buffalo State students. The quality of a student's experience at Buffalo State depends heavily on good advisement, and the primary responsibility for student advisement is with the faculty.

All faculty members are required to play a role in student advisement and must be familiar with college and departmental requirements and policies so that they can intelligently guide students.

Teacher Certification

The Teacher Certification Office recommends Buffalo State graduates to the New York State Department of Education for teacher certification after they have completed an approved teacher preparation program. The Teacher Certification Office also serves as a resource for teacher certification requirements and a variety of certification related topics.

New York State prides itself in the high quality of its licensed and certified professionals. For the protection of citizens, each license and certificate has requirements that individuals must meet to be licensed or certified in New York State. In accordance and for its role in protecting the public, SUNY’s academic programs leading to licensure or certification are carefully designed to meet and exceed these NYS requirements. Other states frequently have their own requirements, so if your goal is to practice your chosen profession in another state, this professional licensure disclosure notifies you to check your program for requirements in other states.
